Dignified Sea Burial carries forward the spirit of the SeaBurial business founded by George, now in the care of Capt. Chris.

From an intimate family ceremony to a larger gathering, our approach is personal: listen carefully, make the arrangements, and treat each farewell with dignity.

Based in New Jersey, we help families explore departure areas across the country. Tell us where you would like to gather, and we will check the options for your family.

It is okay to have questions.
We are here to talk them through.

Text Capt. Chris

We don’t answer calls during ceremonies. Please allow us a little time, and we’ll make sure the captain gets back to you.

Can you arrange a boat for a larger group?

Yes. Choose your departure area and tell us your guest count. Capt. Chris will coordinate a suitable vessel and confirm your ceremony package with you.

How much does a ceremony cost?

Pricing depends on your vessel, guest count, departure location, and ceremony wishes. Start with a request or a phone call, and we will provide a personal quote before you commit. No payment is collected through this request form.

Is my date booked when I send a request?

Your preferred date is reserved once we confirm your arrangements with you. The online form begins your request; no payment is collected at this stage.

Can we include music, readings, or our faith traditions?

Absolutely. A favorite song, a reading, a prayer, or a few shared memories can make the farewell your own. Tell us what matters to your family, including any religious or cultural traditions, so we can discuss the arrangements with your captain.

What if the weather is not suitable?

Your captain assesses conditions for your departure and will contact you if plans need to change. Weather arrangements and the vessel’s rescheduling or cancellation terms will be discussed before you confirm.

What should we bring, and is the boat accessible?

We will discuss the cremated remains, suitable containers and flowers, clothing, boarding, seating, and any mobility needs for your specific vessel. Let us know about access needs before booking so we can help identify an appropriate boat.

Can you help if our family cannot attend?

Yes. Ask about an unattended scattering, where a captain carries out the farewell on your behalf. We will discuss the arrangements, transfer of the cremated remains, and memorial documentation with you before proceeding.
